Osama bin Laden, the founder of the al-Qaeda organization responsible for the September 11th attacks, was killed by gunshot wounds to his head and chest on May 2, 2011, in a raid by United States special operations forces, codenamed "Operation Neptune's Spear” in Bilal Town, Abbottābad, Pakistan.  The killing of bin Laden received a favorable response in the United States and was welcomed by a large number of countries as a significant point in the War on Terror.

In the United States there were a number of significant demonstrations celebrating the death of this man.  A question has been risen as to whether that was a correct response or not.  I was asked how I felt.  My answer was: Not bad, I just wish he had been located and killed sooner.

The end result is bin Laden was a self-proclaimed planner and leader of the group known as al-Qaeda.  An organization that choose to orchestrate large scale attacks on the civilians in the United States.  Osama bin Laden claimed responsibility for the attacks.  When the U.S. Cole was attacked, Americans were not happy but generally an attack on a military asset is recognized as a legitimate part of conflict.  More Americans recall the Twin Towers (civilian) and United Flight 93 (also civilian) part of event than the Pentagon (civilian/military).  The Pentagon was still a military asset.  Although it doesn't diminish the effect of the attack using a hijacked civilian airliner the Pentagon itself could be seen as a military target.

But as Osama bin Laden claimed full responsibility and credit for the September 11 attacks, I find it hard not to grant him all repercussions from that action.

Now, I didn't go sing in the street or parade around the neighborhood.  I don't sing.  I'm just glad he was held accountable for his actions by the U.S. Military.

One of bin Laden's daughters told Pakistani investigators that the SEALS shot him dead in front of family members.

I can't feel really bad about that.  I saw people jump out of the burning Twin towers.

At the conclusion of the raid, U.S. forces took bin Laden's body to Afghanistan for identification before burial at sea within 24 hours of his death as a part of the Islamic tradition.

Now that, I definitely don't give a damn about.  Nobody that displays such a callous disregard for other human life and customs deserves even token respect from the the enemy.  If necessary for identification or determining the exact cause of death, I would not care if the body was brought to the United States for a full autopsy, fingerprinting and DNA analysis.  I also would not care if they just left him where his fell.  I don't care about Islam tradition, custom or any other Arab tradition in this matter.  THERE WAS NO CONCERN FOR THE LIVES LOST ON SEPTEMBER 11 from the Arab/Islamic world.  I also saw the celerbrations over there.

Under Islamic tradition burial at sea is considered by some to be inappropriate when other, preferred forms of burial are available, and several prominent Islamic clerics criticized the decision.

In America we have our own traditions too, many of them were interrupted on September 11th and have been ever since.   So as to Islamic Tradition I say too damn bad, the destruction of living people by intentionally crashing planes into buildings is against our traditions.  His body was treated better than I would have treated it.  I would have just tossed it into a pig skinned leather bag and tossed out with the rest of the trash.

Dr. Mohamed Ahmed el-Tayeb, the head of Al-Azhar University, Egypt's seat of Sunni Muslim learning, said the disposal of the body at sea was an affront to religious and human values.  Again, this is a self-proclaimed terrorist.  In a time when we Americans are criticized for our perceived treatment and suspicions of Islam.  Where Muslims claim that “We are not all terrorists, don't treats us like them.”   Muslim leaders complain that dumping Osama bin Laden was against religious and human values.  Yeah, well I can't get behind that.  If you want me to respect your values, respect mine.

Ismail Haniya the Palestinian leader of Hamas said., "We condemn the assassination of a Muslim and Arab warrior."

Well, I guess we, evil Americans know were he stands.  And I don't have a problem if we know because a Predator is just over his head.
